Big Fred's Bytes - June Edition

It is summer!  Summer breaks from school… Summer swimming….Graduation Parties…vacations – some are here and some are not.  As we look forward to the increased fellowship with family and friends over the next couple months, we will try to share a little more in our newsletters to help keep everyone current.   Speaking of keeping you current – PLEASE remember to keep the church office up-to-date on your contact information.  Tammy, Marion, and Debbie are working hard to transfer all information into our new data base that will greatly increase our abilities in the office to follow up on issues.

Here are a couple of quick bullet points to get us started:

  • Family Sunday on June 20th in which all children will worship with their families instead of kids’ classes.   Nursery will still be available for kids ages 3 and under.
  • Father’s Day Pie Giveaway (contact Tammy in the office to help supply the pies needed) complete a connect card to make sure your Dad is signed up for the giveaway.
  • Graduation Sunday is June 27th when we plan to recognize all that have recently graduated from High School, College, Tech Schools, and our very own HCCI.
  • Baptism will be held in the river near the Kittanning Boat launch starting at 1pm following the services on June 27th.
  • Vacation Bible School starts June 28th – make sure you are inviting all the young children you know to come in for great fun, music, and a really neat learning opportunity.  I think you will be very glad you did.
  • The Truth Project is being offered twice this summer (during 2nd service and Monday nights for Crossroads group).  Plans are being made to find a way to offer this teaching series this fall at PVC on the screen.  We will share more soon.

You will soon see a new look to our web site.  In July, we are moving to a different Web Hosting Company, and you will find a fresh new look and many new features.   Be sure to send me an email and let me know what you think.  I think you will enjoy it.   Although not directly related to the web site, we are also using this time to increase our administrative ability to keep up with many things going on in the lives of our church family through the implementation and use of a software called Church Community Builder (we call it CCB).  You will hear us talking about it in the coming months.  For now, we just want to let you know we are using it, but you will also have the opportunity to use it in the future if you choose.

During our testing with Cobblestone (which was still in Beta test stage), we learned a great deal about our members’ level of comfort with technology.  I think you will find this new approach must more user friendly.  We are also using this opportunity to “review the member lists”, etc.  You may be having one of the ladies in the office asking some questions regarding your desire and activity level at Harvest.  Please be patient with us as we try to become more efficient at serving you.  That is our goal, but we must start with a good information base to do that.  Rest assured, the information we keep is treated with respect and securely filed, password protected, and only used for church business.  We do not share our information with outside groups.

I hope that many of you will be able to enjoy serving on one of the many mission trips this summer.  We will be sharing more information in regards to their activity as they come along.  It is planned that in mid August, we will pick a night and share testimonies from all the summer missions activities.  Watch the bulletin for that date.  I would expect us all to see some awesome pictures of God’s Love in action!

Please keep our teams heading to these areas in your prayers:

Newark, New Jersey

Morgantown, West Virginia

Guatemala

Wayumi, Pa - Youth mission experience

Vietnam

We are also in the very preliminary stage of calling missionaries from within our own congregation to engage in an aggressive preparation process for their commissioning to plant a church in an unreached people group.  Your prayers in this area are very important now as we seek God’s direction and calling upon our church.

We look forward to having some time this summer to visit with our current missionaries to India – Imili and Sara Jamir.  They are currently spending some time in Colorado and will be with us in July 2010.

Be sure to look for your brothers & sisters of HCC at booths during these summer festivals:

June 30th to July 4th – Ford City Heritage Days

July 9th- 11th – Emlenton Community Days

July 16th- 18th – East Brady River fest

July 29th – Aug 1st – Fort Armstrong Folk Festival

Proverbs 16:3 Commit your works to the Lord, and your thoughts will be established.
