Big Fred's Bytes - July Edition

I hope you all had a great time with family and friends over the July 4th weekend. I encourage each of you to commit some time to prayer each day for the leaders of this great country. We have been blessed by God from the beginning of the United States of America because of our commitment to keep God in our Government. In these days, we see more and more steps to remove God from public life and the framework of our country. Please pray that our leaders seek God in all things.
International Outreach has been a commitment from the first days at Harvest Community Church. We have some opportunities coming up in August and then on Labor Day Weekend to take that commitment to the next level. Look for details of how you can host International Students in your home for one night and share in helping them receive a positive Christian experience at Harvest. I will distribute more details in a separate communication and in our bulletin and website. You won’t want to miss these opportunities to bring students from many different cultures into your very own backyard.
Over the last couple months, we have retooled the website plus added a Church Information Management software tool to our resources. We learned a great deal last year as we experimented with Cobblestone. I think you will find both of these new tools much more user friendly and efficient. This will be a secured site that helps us communicate better with you. You don’t really need to do anything special today other than know we are using it. If you receive an email from the church and have any difficulty opening it, please contact Tammy in the Church Office for help getting that corrected. Over the next several months, many of our members will find the tools very helpful.
Our church-wide Informational Meeting will be held on August 18th at the Kittanning Campus. We will start with a carry-in meal at 6:00 pm followed by communion and information sharing. If you have any questions that you would like us to address, please send me an email with them, and we will attempt to get as many as possible covered. We will also host the Red Cross Blood Drive in the activity room from noon until 6 pm this day. We also look forward to getting updates on all of our Summer Mission trips that evening.
We are nearing completion of the Deacon Preparation Training and hope to be able to present our new Deacons to you by the end of July. As a reminder, Russ Baptiste, Kevin Giddings, and Hugh Adams are continuing to progress through their training to become Elders. I look forward to working with these men and women in many leadership responsibilities.
Just a couple quick notes of things that are in the works:
- Information Meeting and Missions Update (Wed Aug 18th)
- Furniture to Students (Aug 21st)
- Teachers In-Service Day (Aug 31st)
- International Weekend (Sept 4th & 5th)
- Fall Kick-off for all classes and our new sermon series (Sept 12th)
- Emergency Services Recognition Day (Sept 12th)
- Community Group Sign-up and Kick-off (Sept)
- Christmas Play Tryouts - TBD
We would appreciate your help and service in any of these activities. You may contact me for more information on any of these efforts, and I will get you connected to the leaders.
Romans 5:8 "But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us."
I am sure you have read that verse many times in your life, but try reading it a couple more times right now. Reflect on how much love it would take to “allow”- “your son” to die for someone else and then think about that someone else being a person that you may not really think will do things well after your son gives his life for them. - God’s grace and love for you and I is beyond our ability to understand. I can only seek Him with all my heart, mind, and soul and give Him the Glory in all things.
